I am mother devoted to baby sleeping bags since I used them with my first baby, my son, who has always been a great sleeper. He was doing 7pm-7am with a dream feed at 10:30pm from being around 12 weeks old. My daughter arrived in October 2009 and having found out I was expecting a girl I had sold all my sons clothes hanging on to very little although sleep suits and sleeping bags felt a little extravagant to be changing just for the sake of the colour blue. I was struck with maternal guilt that all my daughters’ sleeping bags had been slept in by her brother before her and all her sleeping bags having a very definite car/boat/pirate/blue theme going on. I decided it was only fair for her to have at least one new pink sleeping bag! Previously all our sleeping bags are the market leading brand sold on the high street and in department stores, with a toddler in tow we are out and about more with my baby daughter than with my first baby so I wanted a sleeping bag that I could use with her car seat and buggy safety harnesses. It was searching for sleeping bags compatible with travel harnesses that I discovered Manuka Baby.
When the sleeping bag arrived I was really wowed by the feel of it, so soft, with really lovely, delicate rose detail. I would describe the big difference the merino blend fabric brings to a sleeping bag for baby is that a baby wears a Manuka Baby sleeping bag whereas you put your baby in other sleeping bags. When my daughter is wearing her Manuka Baby sleeping bag I still feel like I am holding her as the fabric drapes around her, it fits where it touches as they say. Other sleeping bags maintain the same shape as they have on the hanger irrespective of whether a baby is sleeping in it or not. This makes a massive difference when winding her after her dream feed, with the other bags I am forever trying to pull them down to fit smooth against her so I can put her down in comfort for the rest of the night. When I first bought my daughters Merino sleeping bag from Manuka Baby it was supposed to be a special luxury treat, in pink, to make up for the majority of her nights spent in blue hand-me-downs, I didn’t expect the product to be particularly different, but it really is. Unlike the other brands a Manuka Baby sleeping bag goes from newborn to two years whereas with the other brands my daughter would have outgrown her only pink one and be back to blue in just six months which actually makes it better value for money than all her brothers predecessors!
